Derrick Gant, who performs under the stage name Phat Geez, was shot multiple times on the 1200 block of North Taney Avenue, according to city police.
Authorities said it happened around 10:15 p.m. Gant was found lying in the street and was rushed to Presbyterian Hospital where he died at 10:30 p.m., police said.
Fellow rapper and Philadelphian Meek Mill memorialized Gant on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Police say they do not have a description of a suspect.
Anyone with information is asked to call PPD's Homicide Unit at 215-686-3334 or 215-686-8477. A $20,000 reward is offered for information that leads to an arrest and conviction.
